releasing not very often, understand has always kept things in the dark about what is going to happen next. the wait is over and the fifth instalment of the series is named ebandogue and features 3 tracks from dubtil, one of today s best producers in the bucharest underground. ruling side a is opus ebant, an epic masterpiece, driven by a groovy bassline and subtle male choirs. this heavenly atmosphere goes from trippy to driving back and forth making it perfect for a peaktime moment that won’t be forgotten. may also be used in some worship places. debandada and epilogue share side b and besides the producer himself that is almost everything they share. debandada is kind of dark and experimental but full of energy in the same time with weird whispers and evolving hats keeping everything on the move. epilogue has a more positive approach, the general uplifing feeling is spiked ocasionally with a techno resonator and some background synths, and just like that, the random delayed male vocals make it so more interesting.

cpu records are honoured to welcome back the elusive automatic tasty, aka jonny dillon, from dublin, who delivers 4 tracks of trench coat acid / electro funk with at’s signature acid-tinged break beats woven throughout. the life parochial demonstrates jonny’s accomplished studio mastery, where you’ll find nods to mr fingers, luke vibert and metro area. but more importantly his own stamp of quality and musicality where each track is bursting with insatiable melodies that compel you to listen again.

ive been over and over track running orders, while taking into account the limitations of vinyl. it needs to be a loud cut as anything increasing the chances of this music being played in clubs is a priority. the major development is, i d really like the a side at 45rpm, as before. as well as the extra volume, granular psychosis is an exciting prospect to be able to play at both speeds as its so fast. with this track list below, we re exceeding the time slightly for what i ve been advised is the best 45rpm quality. however, as zattrday has such a limited frequency range, that can be cut to take a very small part of the vinyl. i will talk to, about all this, and ultimately go with his advice of the best way to do this on the day. but i can say it will almost definitely happen like one of the two options below

uber bring the new mushrooms project ep. a slight diversion for uber into the cosmic afro infused musical stylings that the mushrooms boys are masters. madrugada s tribal energy is reminiscent of tony esposito or tullio de picopo. the italian afrobalearic groove that we at uber love so much. the big boobs is a slower more contemplative track, still holding onto the percussive feel but with hints of the east. i suspect the title is influenced by last summers trip to the great outdoors in birmingham. finally we come to the epic musical journey that is african obsession. continuing the fine italian tradition of tribal dance music this is a tight superbly produced trip into afrocosmiche. 15 minutes of hypnotic beauty. uber hitting the spot again.

matt karmil is one of the most favorite newcomer for us. after we have listened his debut track reverse peephole,we are overwhelming. we said masters at work meets ibiza, fight on a side is unique merodic raw house and kiss and make up is more uplifting but sweet techno house track. if you like the production of dj koze,you will love this release.

the second jungle wonz release on trax, again with harry dennis gorgeous vocals, was sub-licensed to both new york label vendetta and breakout in the uk (both subsidiaries of a&m), with some fine remixes by former area resident justin strauss. -this was one of the first house songs i ever heard when i was like 14- recalls felix da housecat. -marshall jefferson has been a huge influence on all my basslines. people usually think that basslines come from 80 s pop bands but they came from marshall jefferson. marshall jefferson is probably the best house producer of all time for this period.-

berlin based label schakal’s first ep comes from antialias, one of its two founders and is called -somber clarity-. the title track makes us think of the return into the early morning light, but could just as easily be a reminder to those dark and delirious hours that came before.

with his last ep offering on keinemusik, &me displayed himself once again as supplier of anthems that easily reconcile style with general floor purpose. you would think, such an universal and inexhaustible tune as this very “after dark” can only be a lucky hit. but no, he’s knocking out the classic material just like that. another example? catalog number km028, his brandnew “trilogy” ep. the titletrack on a initially places a synth arpeggio behind a kick that in dryness is hardly to excel. the beat of -trilogy- is then seasoned with rimshot patterns until the saturated bassdrum comes in and paves the way to the dancefloor. &me even refines his knack for stoic grooves on this jam and once again shows his sure feeling for suitable vocal features. sabotas croon comes devoid of big gestures and still knows the ropes to appeal to the collective mentality of a clubcrowd. on the flipside, “woods” is living up to its name from the very beginning. woody percussions are thumping within an almost subtropical scenario that’s frequently pervaded by mighty synth clouds. and once again, there’s an arpeggio sneaking in that at some point is taking the lead in this strictly instrumental affair. add a break building that will educe a floor’s complete euphoric potential without going for the rather mindless escalation and there you have it: a b-side that’s actually more of an a-competitor.

brack, the new imprint from uk-born berlin-based producer bnjmn, is back in quick succession with another strong transmission from the label boss. after plunging into dirtier, darker sonic waters on the pitchfork-tipped brack001, chromed continues the descent. while the propulsive rhythms and skilfully stacked samples remain intact, these 4 tracks are imbued with subtler elements that become more apparent with repeated listens. drums don’t just bang, they scrape, stab and shudder, and the typically mesmeric synth-lines are swathed in analogue hiss and seething low-end. idiosyncratic aural details have always been a specialty of the young producer, but here they rise to the fore. the rapidly flourishing sound world that is brack comes more into focus, and it appears it is even more intricate and musically rich than on first glance.

born in sidi bel abbess, algeria, now living in istanbul, el mahdy jr. is a rising voice in sample based global electronic music. his sonic experiments have grown into a collection of disciplined, well timed musical gestures that confound the expectations of any single genre. splicing devotional music into a blunted blend of half time bass and mystic sound. familiar in its bass weight and its global melt, but completely new and enveloping in its fragility and poise.

it is no easy task to blend the cerebral with the soulful - the two tend to stand at opposing corners in the deep house world and producers are often forced to choose one or the other - to mix both is a lofty aim. maddermodes may not have set out with this merger in mind when launching the project - mental space - but the end result is striking in its effortless fusion. released under the artists own label, shift coordinate points, the ep consists of two tracks: mental space and human science. the titles, of course, lead one to assume there will be a strong degree of technicality and complexity behind the songs and indeed there is, what is surprising is the level of personality and moodiness that also exists.

the original version is nothing short of a classic, but its as if the song had never been invited to a louie vega post-midnight global extravaganza. was the song not aware that spellbound dancing and high bpms were the standard for house music? normally, such a blaring disregard for nightlife decorum would relegate a song to the pits of sonic hell, but we’re talking about george clinton here! the original opens up with a g-funk groove that screams westside and lowriders. the listener is then blessed with clinton as he adds his sage, soulful and pimpadelic vocals, complemented by funkadelic singers asking him about the pains of the funk. the semblance of a beat that could drive the dancefloor into the morning hours is there, but in no way has it blossomed into its full glory. enter louie vega.

a third release for the year from deep explorer extends the invitation to allstarr motomusic, aka zurich based producer and deepartsounds founder daniel piu. under his given name, piu has form for house productions dating back to the late 90s but seems newly reinvigorated following the decision to start working as allstarr motomusic, with beauty & simplicity following a fine contribution to the minuendo label. the three original allstarr motomusic exude an old school feeling no doubt developed by years of record collecting and are augmented by a fine remix from anthony nicholson.

over 10.000 years ago, after the last ice age, humans began to explore and settle the place now known as scotland. evidence of our ancestors can be found in the various rock carvings, standing stones, tombs and dwellings still scattered throughout the lands today. modern archaeological techniques can offer ever more detailed suggestions as to what these monuments might have meant, but it is still largely left to our imaginations to discern just what these spaces were used for.

markantonio can rightly be described as one of italys true techno titans, working tirelessly as he has since the late nineties to bring the tougher side electronic music into the light. recording for labels such as marco carolas design music, billy nastys tortured records and umeks recycled loops, markantonio has spent the last 16 years on the cutting edge of quality techno but it was with the launch of his analytic trail imprint in 2001 that he perhaps truly came into his own.

big with dixon, the drifter, alex niggemann, fur coat, thugfucker, frankey and sandrino. -sketches of pain- is a meet-up of two cultures which have been at war with each other for thousands of years. music unites where the world of men divides! here the magical voice of egyptian singer ahmad elsawy can weave its spell. intelligent electronica, ethnic and acoustic instruments, all join together once more to blend two worlds into one universal language. 3 remixes. luca bacchetti continues his series of endless remixes preferring a mostly dub feel with a version that retains some of the original elements, creating that tension culminating in what is the “suspended” sonic idyll that lately has characterized his breakdowns, by now a trademark of his. jon charnis, who we already know for his work on innervisions and all day i dream, has taken it in another direction to put together a true masterpiece, the tone here becoming more -trippy- with a pure afterhours atmosphere. the ever present and increasingly detailed groove add to that magic touch that has made charnis one of the most interesting techno artists on the american scene. last but not least one of our favourite techno artists, eduardo de la calle, surprises us with an interpretation that distances itself completely from the original, moving it into that enigmatic, mysterious and unregulated territory that is definitely his very own unmistakable way of living and feeling techno music. an ep that we expect will come-out from indoor clubs to find its best expression in exotic locations, deserts, beaches, dimensions that are part of that imaginary world that we call: endless.

the -i love vinyl - open air- has established itself in the beautiful thuringian north and attracts more and more vinyl fans every year. this is due not only to the familiar, nature-loving atmosphere between fields, meadows and forests on the southern slopes of the kyffhaeuser mountains, but also due to the attention to detail when it comes to decoration, line-up and most important the sound. since 2009 ‘i love vinyl’ attracts international celebrities like monika kruse, panpot, dj hell, mousse t., karotte, andhim, alle farben, oliver koletzki, tiefschwarz, modeselektor, tobi neumann, mathias kaden, daniel stefanik, thomas schumacher, blawan, dapayk & padberg, douglas greed and jake the rapper. the official compilation for i love vinyl open air in 2015 hosts three of this years main artists wankelmut, bebetta and markus suckut. all tracks on this 12inch are first time exclusive vinyl cuts.

moscow017 sees archie hamilton release his first solo ep on the label since it s creation, five years ago. the opening track was written at the end of a summer season spent in ibiza s cala vadella. it s intricate bass, percussion and emotive tones capture the mystery of this beautiful part of the island, putting the listener into a hypnotic state over it s 12 minute journey. contrarily, 21514 was written in the uk during the spring (the clue is in the title) micro house percussion is paired with dreamy synths and growling bass in perfect harmony to create 7 minutes of wonder. romania s priku lends a hand on the remix, adding a sense of dance floor aggression but without loosing the original character of the track.

arguably all but the most dedicated fans will have long forgotten most significant beat, a post industrial early 90s techno project from former clock dva man maurizio martinucci and esplendor geonetrico s saverio evangelista. this surprise vinyl compilation tells the story of their previously cd-only late 90s work, throwing in a previously unheard workout, the angular rhythms and sheffield bleeps of geometric state for good measure. for the most part, the material has aged remarkably well, and sits somewhere between the forthright madness of autechre, the spacey techno of detroit-via-frankfurt (see amy tekno) and the buzzing intensity of surgeon.

psyth launches with the debut ep from rob shields. with a delicate urgency driven by a pulsating post-punk bassline, shards lavishes layer upon rich layer of sound, evoking the cool grooves of peaking lights and chromatics, while a shimmering vocal sample from rebecca sawyer adds an otherworldly sense of longing that echoes through the soul of the release. silhouetted appears more conventional and dance-floor friendly next to shards, but under the surface is something unique and strangely exotic. a mantra-like melody loop gives a nod to minimalist composer terry riley and his solo organ works, while world instruments such as an african kalimba and tibetan singing bowl only heighten the hypnotic and intoxicating quality even further.

nicolas villebrun, half of society of silence and acid square dance, is putting out his first solo album on fragil musique, accurately titled « snare roll lp ». villebrun only needed a couple of recording sessions during a short period of time, to put the whole thing out from a unique set up. although an accomplished musician, tite seems to leave his technical skills aside when crafting his music, embracing all the spontaneity one would expect from a techno producer. listening to the lp, the title starts to make sense. when the snares are not rolling, the smooth basslines take over, strongly dragging bodies towards the dance floor. hungry man, move into hell, a white track, and the amazing the bell glides are among those. basslines curved as a horse s behind, subtly swifting through the air, are playing around with smartly spread out rhythms and textures. tite comes up with nine commonly grounded tracks, but with the necessary talent and sharpness to produce a resolutely fine, homogeneous, and yet diversified techno lp.

little is known about the london-based producer and dj who goes by the name of u, but that hasnt quelled praise from bedroom heads, industry tastemakers and big name press alike. audio arbiter george fitzgerald originally met u on a holiday in greece and immediately commissioned a handful of 12inches, each brimming with trademark mechanical bliss, like pleasure tinged with menace. u has since gone on to release for erol alkans phantasy sounds (both as a solo artist and in collaboration with babe, terror as btu), being given the nod by the guardian, mixmag and the line of best fit.

the third release on interzona13 s sister label outerzona13... black s debut was one of our best-selling 12 s of last year, so this highly anticipated follow up couldn t come soon enough ! edits ? yes, but out of the ordinary, and out of this world - a ron hardy staple teleports into the 21st century, elsewhere devastatingly good afro-soul is sure to work those thighs, and wrapping things up we get an impossible to resist, sultry, cosmic jazz-funk workout like no other. another keeper on this fine label !

the people behind the amazing mareh festival in brasil (the southern hemisphere s answer to electric elephant), drop yet more top drawer music as their label journey continues to gain strength. set in the lush settings of bahia where day blends into night and sun into moon, mareh continues to attract some first class artists from around the world to release on their imprint. the second release kicks off with glasgow based production wizard the revenge letting loose a late night groove that takes a blissful string sample and then works it for the dance floor. it s top stuff from the man with the roaring grooves. and rumours have it that the revenge himself will be headlining at this year s legendary nye event in bahia alongside tim sweeney, pete herbert & dicky trisco. next up is berlin based disco and house aficionado eddie c who drops an uber cool, cut up disco chugger that is likely to work your sunset and early morning sets to the max. mareh favourite pete herbert then steps up to the controls and delivers an upbeat, balearic dance floor banger that hits all the right notes and then hits them again. you can almost smell the hierbas on this one! last but not least, tokyo based englishman max essa delivers an electronic ode to late night dancing and early morning dips as he joins the dots between the tokyo underground and the fresh bahian surf. wonderful stuff. so mareh really are out to pull in a truly global sound to their label outing with glasgow, berlin, london, ibiza and tokyo all represented as well as their spiritual homelands sao paulo, and of course the place where it all happens each new year... bahia.

the fourth release from palms & charms sees the return of label co-owner barnaby bruce, ruminating on the perils of fine fabric care. we ve all been there – a lengthy session on the dancefloor playing havoc with the pile of your velvet coat. faced with this dilemma, barnaby reaches for the battered volume, passed down through untold generations of his family, detailing archaic yet uncannily effective methods for extending the life of even the most exquisite textiles. as he does so, the percussive jazz-tinged boogie of sweat on velvet takes over his mind, unleashing a wave of dancefloor euphoria. not to be outdone, pete herbert (reverso 68), unveils his own masterful fabric care techniques, providing a remix that will starch your collar and shake out the creases. not the same clothes, but something brand new. freshly attired, barnaby begins to notice curious and somewhat unsettling noises coming from the next room. he gingerly opens the door, and is confronted with a seance in full swing. strangers sitting around his dining table wait with baited breath for word from the other side. but the unearthly howling of tortured spirits is quickly silenced by the devilish groove of seance fiction. as the arp makes its entrance, every soul is up and dancing. finally, barnaby bruce also provides the eminently useful go go percussion dub of sweat on velvet – rounding out a sartorially elegant ep with something for everyone, from sceptics to lost souls.

returning to hakt after his 2013 single n1, cale parks continues to chart a compelling new path with the lagoon fool ep, his second foray into solo production. as the current drummer for yeasayer and a prolific collaborator both in studio and live, cale’s creativity knows no genre. the five tracks on offer sneak from the beaten path, complicating signifiers of style, gently tweaking the standard grammar of club music, and remaining accessible all the while. assembled in his brooklyn studio, but sonically sourced from his grandparents’ tennessee farm, lagoon fool carries that sublime, somehow inviting ethos of the appalachian range. airy and tectonic at once, impeccably detailed, yet easily taken as a whole, it’s a rich, deceptively layered listen. as a skilled songwriter and a produce quickly proving his caliber, cale has composed a suite that demands multiple listens and a place at peaktime just the same

blludd, the natural fusion of bullion and judd. since meeting in 2011, jesse hackett of elmore judd and nathan jenkins (bullion) have been writing and recording songs together as musical relations.

a year and a half after black merlin (george thompson) opened the common thread series with the much praised new world fantasy / ice house release george sent over some adventurous bits for a follow up and we were immediately sold. george is a true artist in his own right. all of the black merlin tracks evoke different sentiments. this time around the feeling it bring up is very conflicted. both tracks have those dark aesthetics with elements of paranoia and both also share some apocalyptic elements. it is for this reason that this is the perfect follow up for ct01. instead of just releasing music on vinyl we (with the blessings of zoroaster) are looking to evoke spirits, cross boundaries and maintain quality. major cliches, but with an artist like black merlin on your books, cliches sometimes become truth.

from newcastle to london via the midlands comes tough luck records, a label ran by four friends - chris cue, rebel, twon and anna wall. pressing vinyl as well as releasing digitally, their debut release was named single of the month by mixmag (uk) in august 2013 and like a fine wine the label has been getting better with age. with the follow up releases also selling out, the label has featured music from ed davenport and the jaydes (bloody mary & attan). the last release which featured rising star elliot adamson, picked up dj support from people including ten walls, breach, dan curtain and adam shelton to name but a few. this new release features two original tracks from jack wickham who has fast been carving out a name for himself with releases on one records, drumma and get physical music, with forthcoming releases already signed to visionquest and air london. remixes coming from nikola gala and jonny lawrence. pressing on blue vinyl.

four fine edits of super rare cosmic disco tunes from french playboy and producer maximilian blanc. maxi wouldnt reveal the details of the originals but needless to say these tracks will do the business on the dance floor. the tracks range from wigged out funk to space cruising strutters, all with that classic cosmic vibe. enjoy the ride!

1st pressing on white vinyl! melodic, floating and based on traditions but without sounding like something you already heard too often, that s about how we would describe the italian duo s second curle ep.

polo is the odds-on of kann s favorite djs. as a longterm label friend finally he makes his debut on the hometown label. with „route“ he modulated 4 trippy mental and uncomplaining tracks that accord with his dj sets as decent but mindblowing journeys into deepest house & techno. welcome polo!

this release captures kicks, rhythms, and snares—only to drag them kicking and screaming into a metallic underworld. in j. tijn’s echo-sphere, there are only allusions to the status quo of sound and beats, and never a full-fledged embrace of the conventional. on side a’s “kanon v.i.p.” a grizzly digital war is left to play out between both kick and snare, with grainy battle lines drawn around upbeat and downbeat. survivors of the conflict are rewarded with a groove reminiscent of grime, if only the genre had been reborn in a dystopian future. side b opens with a roughneck beat on “mor” before turning its hand into a fist and effectively destroying its own image. the groove lives through this barrage of sound, but as a heavy and dark undercurrent just strong enough to remind you where j.tijn’s roots are. “shy” lures you in with a rounded electro kick, before glutting the rhythm and ushering in a wall of sound. a snowstorm of screaming drum samples proceed to surround you: you may have been here before, but you are somewhere rhythmically unseen. embedded in all of these tracks are perhaps a sign of the times: the things that used to be seen as normal have now changed and mutated.

bolivian - born dj s, producers and duo animal print ( aka lecter and marco cuba ) are covering a wide spectrum of sonic and artistic possibilities, from the minimalist, bouncy original mix of -kites for august,- elegantly playing with a mixture of uplifting and dark vibes, to the extremely reduced and highly effective thunders, the relentless, almost epic red moon, and the percussive, hypnotic by orion each track can be appropriate for a different situation, but in the end they are all aiming for the same goal: to create an absorbing soundtrack for unifying experiences on the dance floor.

we left herva & dukwa with a bunch of bangers with their latest ep -it fell down-… we found em back only after few months with their first lifes track longer player featuring an impressive variety of styles but always with their unmissable, raw and twisted up touch. this album of 8 tracks, spread in one twelve and a seven inches, starts on a side with the funky break of -needed-, continuing with the deep driving moment of -amore- and the hip hop beat of -put it on-. on the flip side instead we find the catchy vocal riff of the stomping roller called -freak with us- followed by the soulful ghetto tech vibe of “call it you” and the melancholic, romantic, stoned and rotten lullaby of -tired brass-. more tasty and unusual grooves are included in the tiny wax which close the record up, on a side the peaceful, abstract, suspended and atmospheric dimensions of * play with me* and on the other the glow-fi-sh and -emo--tech wave of -venere-. unmissible!

we are proud to present our second release: a split ep between coldgeist & côme, mastered at dubplates. on the side a we have ‘nocturnal’ and its spatial atmosphere from côme, including a remix from in aeternam vale. the minimalism of the original track and the subtle evolution of the bells evoke a wandering through the abyss of a cold night until the final take off. a perfect opening act for this ep. in aeternam vale s remix sounds astonishingly powerful, cold and caustic with its uncompromising minimalism, but also provocative and capable to smash your ass on the dance-floor. on the flipside, ‘nommos’ original track from coldgeist and the remix from alexey volkov bring the power of industrial tones. coldgeist delivers a 7 minutes track which penetrates progressively into our intimacy. the deep atmosphere reinforced by the repetition of ternary patterns allow to approach a mesmeric state.

latest wicked bass instalment comes from lost 1990s tapes of an underground estonian production group, hupnosaurus. side a opens with muru, a simple ballad with its stripped kicks and funky string bass that gradually reach a lo-fi acidic house condition with psychedelic swirls appearing every now and then. bookworms provides a remix treatment with thick, multi-layered overdriven & looped madness that strips the original to a simple bassline and occasional industrial stabs. on side b, always in n out starts out as unorthodox blend of a classic techno kick and speed garage percussion, but after a long building spacey pad breaks into a classic filtered house tune with transposed chords and cut-up vocals that runs until the end of the track. the last title track demonstrates heavy stomping kicks, swinging hats, familiar psychedelic whirls and a trippy, crushed vocal sample appearing out of nowhere questioning where am i?

uabos, aka matteo pepe, is a young and rising start from the fashion capital of europe. this milan musician melts the mediterranean with 707 attitude, connecting his homeland with the iconic floor grooves of chicago. warbling acid warmth gives way to spiralling female samples as dusk sets in. the track is pure golden sunshine. tweaked bars are woven through clean drums to form an energy-filled track of explosive properties. polished rhythm patterns scaffold the ep. from this solid base flow clever melodies and dancefloor subtlety. 303s trickle against thick and rich chords for the textured tones of abc dream . uabos grabs his audience, holding them with hypnotic harmonies and an entrancing elegance. but with that is an intoxicating funk, one epitomized in the drill . toms and pads introduce. snares snap as a deep and dense build is constructed, layers bubbling arpeggios support cascading chords for a chitown streaked disco romp. the finale, squash , is living musical liquid. a syrup of synthesized squawk squirms under soaring notes and crisp beats for a jackin infusion.
